Ear surgery (Otoplasty)
WHAT IS OTOPLASTY:
Otoplasty is a common surgical procedure performed to correct
auricle deformations. The usual reason for visiting cosmetic
surgeon are protruding ears. As the malformation manifests
itself soon after birth, most patients shall be at their early age,
including small children. In such cases, otoplasty is performed
by making incisions in the back of the ears to expose the
ear cartilage. Some cartilage is remodelled and the ear
repositioned. Sutures are then used to maintain this correction.
The scars remaining behind ears are hardly noticeable.
PROCEDURE
TIME
Surgery is usually performed with local anaesthesia. The
procedure is completely painless and is completed within about one
hour.
POSTOPERATIVE
CARE TIME
Patients may return home on the same day.
POSTOPERATIVE
RECOVERY TIME
On the day following the surgery, check-up is required. The
clinic usually use absorbable stitches. In most cases patients are
asked to arrive for another check-up after one month.
